PETA Suggests Turkeys Would Not Eat Humans, X Community Offers Correction

After the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) made a suggestion about the diet of turkeys, X community notes offered a correction for the group’s statement.

PETA tweeted an image of turkeys gathered around a dinner table, writing in the caption, “We’re lucky turkeys would never do this to us—you don’t have to do it to them, either.”

X, formerly known as Twitter, issued a correction for the post.

“Turkeys are not vegetarians. Turkeys eat mice, lizards, frogs, and just about anything they can fit in their mouth. If turkeys were larger or had the technological means to farm and eat humans, their current diet reveals they likely would.”

The community note was praised on social media.

Chaya Raichik, the woman behind “LibsofTikTok,” said in response, “Hall of fame community note. Not sure this can ever be topped.”

Another community note to PETA’s post read, “Turkeys would absolutely do this because they are jerks.”
