‘People’s Convoy’ Headed Back to Washington

The trucker group is planning another trip to “secure freedom.

  • The American trucker rally called the People’s Convoy is headed back to Washington D.C., according to a post on their website.
  • The group planned to leave Post Falls, Idaho on Thursday, morning, although the details of their demands are as yet unclear and the group’s organizers have not responded to a request for comment from Newsmax
  • While the previous rally was looking to make changes about COVID-19 mandates, their goals seeMed to be largely unattained when they traveled from California to D.C. in March.
  • Organizers said at a recent rally that they were “not the same convoy” they were the first time, seeming to indicate that planned to use intensified measures.

  •  “We the People of the United States, in order to restore our once perfect Union, re-establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense of all, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty, do ordain and establish the restoration movement of The People’s Convoy for the United States of America,” the statement on the group’s website says
  • They also claim to an “all-inclusive non-partisan movement” and have garnered donations to support their cause in the amount of $1,891,694.78 at the time of this writing. 
BACKGROUND:
  • According to group organizers, they plan to hold elected officials accountable saying that politicians “work for US,” and asking that the Constitution be recognized as providing only limited power to the government.
  • The People’s Convoy is fundamentally looking to restore the rights of citizens and small business owners who were restricted from freedom of movement and commerce during the recent COVID-19 lockdowns.
  • The group was inspired by their “Canadian brothers and sisters who led the charge,” saying “we join your call to Freedom with THE PEOPLE’S CONVOY.”
