Musk’s Efficiency Drive Targets Pentagon’s Spending

Elon Musk, leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has initiated an audit of the Department of Defense (DoD) to identify and eliminate wasteful spending. This move aims to reallocate funds towards modernizing military technology, particularly in counter-drone capabilities.

Steve Simoni, a former Navy nuclear engineer and current CEO of Allen Control Systems, highlighted instances of excessive expenditures within the DoD. He recounted specific instances of wasteful spending, saying: “When I was at the Department of Defense, we were spending $10,000 on HDMI cables that were ‘ruggedized’ when we could have purchased them for $20 or $30 at Best Buy… We need to get more efficient with our spending, because there’s a massive threat of drones that are proliferating on the battlefield right now, and the new administration, Secretary [Pete] Hegeth knows this.”

The audit has reportedly caused significant concern within the Pentagon. Simoni noted that DOGE’s focus on the DoD is “sending shockwaves through the department,” as the audit is expected to uncover various instances of financial inefficiency.

China’s dominance in drone manufacturing, producing approximately 90% of these devices, underscores the urgency of reallocating resources. Simoni described drones as evolving from “toys” to “weapons of war,” highlighting the critical need for the U.S. to enhance its counter-drone technologies. “We’re actually very vulnerable right now, and we need to have solutions to be able to take these drone threats out,” Simoni shared.

Musk’s initiative aligns with President Donald Trump’s broader agenda to streamline government operations and reduce unnecessary expenditures. By targeting the Pentagon’s budget, the administration aims to ensure that defense spending is both efficient and effective, addressing modern threats without financial waste.
