Nancy Pelosi’s handpicked successor wants to force taxpayers to fund abortion on demand through Planned Parenthood and push Medicare to cover “gender affirming care” for children, according to the candidate’s own campaign platform.
The 86-year-old Speaker Emerita endorsed San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan on Monday to replace her in California’s 11th Congressional District, releasing a video with the two seated in front of a Golden Gate Bridge backdrop. After nearly four decades in the House of Representatives, Pelosi is betting that Chan will continue her legacy of far-left politics in one of America’s most liberal districts.
“I know and love this district,” Pelosi declared in the video, putting an arm around Chan. “I know the Congress, and I know Connie. I’m proud to endorse Democrat Connie Chan and ask you to join me in electing her to Congress.”
Chan’s campaign website reads like a progressive wish list that would make even some Democrats uncomfortable. She’s vowing to fund Planned Parenthood to provide the “full range” of abortion to “over 2 million Americans every year.” She wants Medicare, Medicaid and other federal health programs to cover transgender procedures and promises to include “transgender youth” in “sports teams consistent with their gender identity.”
The 47-year-old supervisor has also pledged to “stand up to the Trump administration” and end federal immigration enforcement raids. Her platform advocates for immigration reform to end what she calls the “inhuman abuses and discriminatory practices” of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.
In her endorsement letter to residents of the district, which covers most of San Francisco, Pelosi wrote that Chan was the “leader best prepared to carry forward the fight for San Francisco in the Congress.”
“At a time when fundamental freedoms and democratic values are under assault, we need a leader in Congress who is prepared to fight, forcefully and effectively,” Pelosi wrote, adding that Chan “understands San Francisco, our values, our diversity, our communities.”
Pelosi announced in November that she would not seek reelection at the end of her current term in 2027.
