Paxton Goes After Islamic Entities

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in an effort to shut down their operations in Texas.

According to Paxton’s office, the two groups violate a number of state laws, including those involving terrorism.

“Sharia law and the jihadists who follow sharia law have no business being in Texas,” Paxton said in a statement. “I am in full support of Governor Abbott’s lawful declaration that CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood are foreign terrorist organizations, and it’s imperative that they are stopped from operating in Texas. Radical Islamic terrorists are antithetical to law and order, endanger the people of Texas, and are an existential threat to our values.”

According to the lawsuit, the Muslim Brotherhood “remains active in Texas through CAIR. The organization is quietly building an underground network across the State with a singular objective: establish Sharia law, punish infidels, and overtake Texan institutions of power.”

“Through this lawsuit, the State of Texas seeks immediate injunctive relief prohibiting the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR from engaging in any further activity within the State,” it adds. “The evidence that follows demonstrates that CAIR is not what it claims to be. It is, and has always been, the American face of an international terrorist organization.”

The lawsuit comes as Paxton’s office recently opened an investigation into two public school districts hosting events connected to the Islamic Games of North America.

Last year, Governor Greg Abbott designated the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as foreign terrorist organizations. Explaining his action, Abbott said the actions taken by the organizations “support terrorism across the globe and subvert our laws through violence, intimidation, and harassment.”
