Cartel Violence Cancels Mexican Independence Day Festivities

Two states in Mexico, Sinaloa and Michoacán, have scaled back or cancelled Independence Day festivities due to escalating cartel violence. In Sinaloa, authorities restricted events to a daytime civic ceremony, eliminating concerts, fireworks, and public gatherings. In Michoacán, multiple municipalities called off their celebrations entirely, citing threats and recent attacks as the reason.

In Sinaloa, the decision followed a surge of violent clashes among factions vying for power, including armed group rivalries and kidnappings. Governor Rubén Rocha Moya ordered the cuts to protect citizens and prevent further instability amidst the lawlessness. Residents who had planned large parties found their hopes dashed by the abrupt cancellations.

Michoacán’s cancellation of communities’ festivities added to a growing list of localities halting events for safety. In some areas, public officials said that cartel presence and recent use of explosives or drones made large celebrations too dangerous. Even where the official ceremonies remain, many local parades and street gatherings did not take place, and people stayed home out of fear.

The absence of celebratory fireworks, music, and communal gatherings has left many citizens mourning not only for public safety but for cultural loss. Independence Day, a moment of national pride and shared remembrance, has come with empty plazas and muted traditions in state after state. Community leaders say they hope the violence will ease so that next year’s festivities can return in full.

DHS Raids in Chicagoland Nab Criminal Illegal Aliens; Noem Present for Operation

The Department of Homeland Security executed a large-scale immigration enforcement action in the Chicagoland area, resulting in multiple arrests of illegal aliens with serious criminal records. The operation, known as “Operation Midway Blitz,” was conducted by federal agents in Elgin, Illinois. Secretary Kristi Noem was on-site during the early morning raids.

Federal agents arrested several individuals wanted for crimes including assault, driving under the influence, felony stalking, and illegal re-entry after deportation. The operation featured tactical entry teams, roadblocks, and forced entries into targeted residences. Among the most significant arrests was Aldo Salazar Bahena, a convicted murderer who had previously been released under Illinois sanctuary policies despite a federal removal order issued in 2016.

ICE agents reported that Bahena had completed his sentence at a maximum-security prison and was released without notification to immigration officials. It took agents several days to locate and apprehend him after his release. Bahena is now in federal custody and will face deportation proceedings.

Operation Midway Blitz was modeled after earlier efforts such as “Operation At-Large” in Los Angeles, where ICE conducted targeted arrests of criminal aliens in sanctuary jurisdictions. Elgin was selected in part because of its proximity to Chicago and its record of non-cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Noem condemned Illinois officials for their refusal to cooperate with ICE, stating that sanctuary policies put American lives at risk. She emphasized that the federal government would continue to enforce immigration laws with or without state and local assistance, particularly when violent offenders are involved.

The operation has already drawn criticism from Illinois lawmakers who oppose immigration enforcement within sanctuary zones. However, DHS officials argue that these actions are necessary to uphold public safety and the rule of law.

EU Warns India’s Russian Oil Deals Thwarting Closer Ties

India’s involvement in Russian military exercises and its continued purchases of Russian oil are complicating efforts to deepen ties with the European Union, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in Brussels. These actions, she noted, are “obstacles to our cooperation” as the EU and India strive for closer strategic alignment.

Kallas made the remarks while unveiling the EU’s updated India strategy, which is designed to strengthen cooperation in trade, defense, climate, and technology. Despite growing tensions over India’s ties with Moscow, Brussels hopes to conclude a Free Trade Agreement with New Delhi by the end of 2025.

India has recently taken part in joint Russian‑Belarus military drills under the Zapad (West) exercises, which some of the EU nations view as provocative, especially given their proximity to NATO borders. Coupled with escalating purchases of Russian oil, these moves have raised alarms in Europe about India’s foreign policy priorities and its alignment with the rules‑based international order.

While trade between the EU and India has grown significantly over the past decade—with bilateral commerce close to doubling—these disagreements present diplomatic friction. EU leaders say the partnership must be more than economic; it must reflect shared values and geopolitical commitments. If India is seen as reinforcing ties with Russia, that may limit how far the EU is willing to cooperate, especially in defense, security, and global standard‑setting.

U.S. Investors Poised to Seal TikTok U.S. Operations Deal

A group of American investors, including Oracle, Silver Lake, and Andreessen Horowitz, is nearing a deal to assume majority control over TikTok’s U.S. operations. As the negotiations progress, President Donald Trump has extended the deadline to ban the app in the United States to December 16.

Under the proposed agreement, the investor consortium would own 80 percent of a newly formed U.S.-based TikTok entity, with the remaining 20 percent retained by Chinese shareholders. Discussions between U.S. and Chinese officials are currently underway in Madrid to finalize the structure of the deal.

As part of the arrangement, a new American-led board will govern the platform, and one member will be appointed by the U.S. government. TikTok users in the U.S. would be required to migrate to a redesigned app, which is already in development. The new app would rely on recommendation algorithms licensed from ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, but rebuilt within the U.S.

The core of the negotiations revolves around TikTok’s algorithm, considered by China to be a state secret. Control over this technology is seen as crucial by American officials, who have cited national security and mental health concerns linked to the platform.

Oracle would be responsible for safeguarding U.S. user data, hosting it on servers located in Texas. This move aims to allay concerns about data privacy and prevent foreign access, which had been a sticking point in previous negotiations.

President Trump, speaking to reporters Tuesday, confirmed that the framework of the deal has been agreed upon and that he will be speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping soon to finalize terms. The resolution would allow TikTok to continue operating in the U.S., in compliance with legislation requiring it to restructure or cease operations.

The deal, if concluded, would resolve years of controversy surrounding TikTok’s ownership and its data practices, while also potentially becoming a model for how the U.S. handles foreign influence in domestic tech.

Trump Redacta Carta a Nuevos Ciudadanos Estadounidenses

Trump Pens Letter to New U.S. Citizens

President Trump issued a letter to newly naturalized citizens, congratulating them on making the United States their homeland and standing as “part of one Nation under God.”

“On behalf of my Administration and the American people, congratulations on becoming a citizen of our great and glorious Nation,” Trump wrote. “America has always welcomed those who embrace our values, assimilate into our society, and pledge allegiance to our country. By taking this oath, you have forged a sacred bond with our Nation, her traditions, her history, her culture, and her values. This rich heritage is now yours to protect, promote, and pass down to the next generation. Our history is now your history. Our customs are now your customs. And our Constitution is now yours to safeguard, honor, and respect.”

Trump declared that as the new citizen pledges their “heart to America,” the nation, in return, “offers the boundless promise of freedom and opportunity.”

“We applaud your devotion to our country, our people, our history and our great American story,” President Trump wrote. “As long as the American people continue to love our country and uphold our values, there is nothing that our Nation cannot achieve. Our communities will flourish. Our people will prosper. Our traditions will endure. And our future will be brighter, more radiant, and more hopeful than ever before.”

“Once again, congratulations and welcome,” Trump concluded. “May God bless you, and may He continue to bless the United States of America.”

The letter will be presented to all new citizens by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as part of Homeland Security’s effort to “restore sanity and common sense to our immigration system, which was deliberately abused by the Biden administration to flood the United States with criminal illegal aliens and others who work to subvert American peace and security,” the department said.

The Trump administration has also moved to implement a “good moral character” evaluation for those undergoing the naturalization process.

House Targets Online Radicalization After Kirk’s Death

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) asked the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit to testify on the “radicalization of online forum users” amid the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death.

The hearing will focus on “instances of open incitement to commit politically motivated acts,” a press release from the committee explains.

“The politically motivated assassination of Charlie Kirk claimed the life of a husband, father, and American patriot. In the wake of this tragedy, and amid other acts of politically motivated violence, Congress has a duty to oversee the online platforms that radicals have used to advance political violence,” Comer said in a statement. “To prevent future radicalization and violence, the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit must appear before the Oversight Committee and explain what actions they will take to ensure their platforms are not exploited for nefarious purposes.”

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on Monday regarding the investigation into Kirk’s alleged assassin, “There appeared to be multiple warning signs.”

“There were people in [Tyler Robinson’s] network, friends and family, who had stated that he had become more political … I believe some of his co-workers had stated that he had kinda detached himself when the topic of politics came up and walked away from them. Family members said he’d become more political, leading us to believe that this ideology had infected him and it had taken over and he was just intent, it appears, from the day that we accumulated and the channel and that note — which we have some evidence may have existed based on the communications in that channel — that his target was obviously going to be Charlie and that people knew in advance.”

Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in the case, reportedly posted to Discord after the assassination, writing, “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all… It was me at UVU yesterday… I’m sorry for all of this.”

DOJ Targets Blue States in Voter Fraud Crackdown

Wisconsin

The Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division filed lawsuits against the states of Oregon and Maine and their Secretaries of State for failing to provide information relating to voter roll records.

According to the lawsuit against Oregon, the state violated federal law by “refusing to produce the current unredacted electronic copy of the state’s voter registration list, to provide information on the state’s voter list maintenance program, and to disclose registration information for any ineligible voters,” while the lawsuit against Maine alleges the state violated the law by refusing to provide information “regarding the removal of ineligible individuals and to produce an unredacted, computerized state voter registration list.”

“States simply cannot pick and choose which federal laws they will comply with, including our voting laws, which ensure that all American citizens have equal access to the ballot in federal elections,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon. “American citizens have a right to feel confident in the integrity of our electoral process, and the refusal of certain states to protect their citizens against vote dilution will result in legal consequences.”

A similar lawsuit was filed in June against Orange County Registrar of Voters Robert Page after he refused to provide records regarding the removal of non-citizens from voter rolls.

The lawsuits come as part of the DOJ’s crackdown on voter registrations in an effort to uphold federal law. The Trump DOJ pledged to ensure that each state has clean voter rolls and will challenge efforts that aim to suppress election integrity. “We are attacking illegal race-based gerrymandering, and we are protecting ballot access for all Americans,” Dhillon said in August.
