Open AI CEO Sam Altman is reportedly stepping down from his role, according to the company’s board of directors.
In a press release, OpenAI said his departure comes after a review process that found Altman was not “consistently candid in his communications” with board members.
“The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI,” the release said.
OpenAI is most well-known for creating the popular artificial intelligence software, ChatGPT.
“The board remains fully committed to serving this mission,” the board continued. “We are grateful for Sam’s many contributions to the founding and growth of OpenAI. At the same time, we believe new leadership is necessary as we move forward.”
Altman is reportedly being replaced by the company’s chief technology officer, Mira Murati, until a full-time CEO is hired.
