Officer Involved Shooting Breaks Out in Phoenix, Suspect Killed

A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday in north Phoenix near 28th Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

Phoenix Police later confirmed that the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and no officers were harmed during the incident.

The suspect’s identity has not been released and the incident is under investigation by authorities as a critical officer-involved shooting, according to a statement from the department shared on X.

Earlier this month, four law enforcement officers were killed, and four other officers were wounded by a suspect opening fire in a gunfight in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The shooting reportedly began when a U.S. Marshals Task Force attempted to serve a convicted felon a warrant for firearm possession.

Authorities said the recipient, identified as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr., was the one who initially opened fire and was also killed in the shootout.

Police believe two shooters may have been involved and other persons of interest were taken into custody.

“We have two people of interest at the police station that are being questioned right now,” Police Chief Johnny Jennings said during a press conference. “And we have confirmed that the individual that was set up that we were serving the warrant on was the individual who fired the initial shots and was deceased in the front yard at the end of all of this.”

Three officers from the U.S. Marshals Task Force and one officer from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) were confirmed to have died in the shootout.
