Officer and Civilians Killed in Manhattan Office Shooting Rampage

A gunman opened fire inside a Manhattan high-rise on July 28, 2025, killing four people—including an off-duty NYPD officer—and injuring multiple others before taking his own life. The incident occurred at 345 Park Avenue, a prominent Midtown office tower that houses major firms including Blackstone and the NFL’s corporate offices.

The attacker, identified as 27-year-old from Las Vegas, entered the building wearing body armor and wielding an AR-style rifle. After shooting multiple victims in the lobby, he moved to the 33rd floor, where he died by a self-inflicted gunshot. Among the dead was Officer Didarul Islam, a former NYPD officer working private security at the time. A fifth victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that the gunman acted alone. The FBI, which is assisting with the investigation, has not released details on motive. Witnesses described panic and chaos as workers barricaded themselves in conference rooms and offices. Videos show employees being evacuated with hands raised as police swept the building.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged residents to avoid the area during the investigation. The NYPD’s quick response was credited with preventing further casualties. Tactical teams cleared the 38-story building floor by floor to ensure no additional threats.

The attack has renewed concerns about security at high-profile urban office centers. Republican leaders, including Rep. Elise Stefanik and Sen. Josh Hawley, called for increased protection at private sector facilities and questioned how the attacker obtained tactical gear and weapons.

Officer Islam’s death has drawn national attention. He leaves behind a pregnant wife. Law enforcement organizations are honoring his service, while federal and state officials pledge full prosecution of any accomplices, if identified. The suspect’s online activity and travel history are being reviewed.

Authorities are expected to release more information in the coming days, including potential red flags in Tamura’s background. No motive has been confirmed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
