House Passes Bipartisan Bill Imposes Sanctions on Ports Processing Iranian Oil

In a bipartisan vote, the GOP House passed a bill that imposes new sanctions on ports and refineries that process oil from Iran.

The Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum Act, also known as the SHIP Act, also removes visas of foreign nationals in the United States who aid the Iranian government in exporting oil.

The bill passed 342-69, with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) as the only Republican who voted against the bill.

The bill now moves to the Senate.

“The Biden Administration continues to pander to Tehran through lax enforcement of oil sanctions and the unfreezing of billions in assets,” stated Rep Elise Stefanik (R-NY). “Since Joe Biden stepped into the Oval Office, Iran has made around $80 billion from illicit oil sales. This steady stream of oil revenue provides significant resources for Iran to advance its nuclear program, support terrorism, and brutally oppress the Iranian people. The SHIPS Act is a crucial step in reversing the Biden Administration’s strategy of appeasement to ensure Tehran does not have the resources to continue funding Hamas’s barbaric attack on Israel.”

Reporting from Just the News:

The Biden administration has "not enforced sanctions on Iranian oil and so we’ve had about $30 to $60 billion they’ve made money off of by evading our sanctions. That goes straight into funding of terrorist organizations like Hamas, like Hezbollah,” said House Foreign Affairs Chairman Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas.
