NYPD Apprehends Three Migrants Linked to Bronx Crime Spree

Three male migrants have been apprehended in the Bronx, New York, following a citywide crime spree involving the theft of cell phones and wallets from unsuspecting women.

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), the trio was arrested on Monday after allegedly committing a string of thefts targeting approximately 62 women across the city. The suspects, believed to be Venezuelan nationals, were taken into custody after law enforcement conducted an investigation into the reported crimes.

Authorities suspect that the migrants targeted cell phones to gain access to money applications like Apple Pay or Cash App, subsequently using stolen credit cards or bank-connected phones to make purchases.

The NYPD executed a search warrant at a suspected safe house in the Bronx, where the migrants were arrested. They are expected to face charges related to multiple robberies and grand larcenies. Law enforcement continues to search for additional suspects believed to be involved in the criminal operation.

During a press conference, Mayor Eric Adams (D-N.Y.) addressed the situation, emphasizing that it is “not about migrants and asylum seekers.”
