NYC Mayor Eric Adams Bans Weight Discrimination, Claims Body Type Doesn’t Determine Health

Democratic New York City mayor Eric Adams has banned discriminating people based on their weight and height in a new law.

“We all deserve the same access to employment, housing and public accommodation, regardless of our appearance and it shouldn’t matter how tall you are, or how much you weigh,” said Adams during the signing ceremony.

Michigan, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Madison, Wisconsin are among other local and state governments who have banned similar discriminations.

Attending the signing was Tigress Osborn of the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, who said the bill should lead other governments across the globe to enact similar legislation.

"We all know, y'all know, New York is the global city," she said. "And this will ripple across the globe in terms of showing to people all over the world that discrimination against people based on their body size is wrong and is something we can change."
