California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) plans to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration for deploying the National Guard to Los Angeles in the wake of anti-ICE riots.
“Donald Trump is putting fuel on this fire. Commandeering a state’s National Guard without consulting the Governor of that state is illegal and immoral,” Newsom wrote on X. “California will be taking him to court.”
In a separate post, Newsom declared that the protests are “exactly what Donald Trump wanted.”
“He flamed the fires and illegally acted to federalize the National Guard,” he claimed. “The order he signed doesn’t just apply to CA. It will allow him to go into ANY STATE and do the same thing.”
“We’re suing him,” Newsom declared.
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told NewsNation that President Trump “rightfully stepped in to restore law and order because of Gavin Newsom’s feckless leadership and his refusal to stop the violent attacks on American law enforcement.”
“It’s a bald-faced lie for Newsom to claim there was no problem in Los Angeles before President Trump got involved,” Jackson added. “Everyone saw the chaos, violence, and lawlessness – unless, of course, Gavin Newsom doesn’t think any of that is a problem.”
President Trump has defended the decision to send the National Guard in response to the riots.
“We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California. If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated,” he wrote on Truth Social. “The very incompetent ‘Governor,’ Gavin Newscum, and ‘Mayor,’ Karen Bass, should be saying, ‘THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, SIR.'”
“Instead, they choose to lie to the People of California and America by saying that we weren’t needed, and that these are ‘peaceful protests.’ Just one look at the pictures and videos of the Violence and Destruction tells you all you have to know,” he declared. “We will always do what is needed to keep our Citizens SAFE, so we can, together, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
