New York State Senator Patricia Fahy, a Democrat, has introduced legislation that would effectively ban Tesla dealerships in the state by preventing them from renewing their sales licenses after January 1, 2025.
Senate Bill S6894, introduced on March 26, would maintain the current cap of five Tesla sales locations but block their renewal, effectively shutting them down. This move targets the same electric vehicle industry that Democrats have aggressively pushed Americans to adopt.
The five Tesla dealerships in New York were originally allowed under a 2014 deal brokered by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, who at the time praised the arrangement as a way to promote zero-emissions vehicle sales and keep New York at the forefront of innovation.
Now, Fahy and her Democratic allies appear to be reversing course, seemingly as retribution against Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, for his association with former President Donald Trump.
The bill raises serious concerns about government overreach and political motivations. If Democrats want to promote electric vehicles, why are they trying to block New Yorkers from buying them? Tesla’s direct-to-consumer sales model has been a major success, but this legislation could cripple the company’s ability to operate in New York, setting a dangerous precedent for political interference in business.
A 27-year-old woman accused of vandalizing a Tesla service center has been ordered to stay away from all Tesla properties as part of her pre-trial release conditions, a judge ruled.
The court determined there was “clear and convincing evidence” to impose restrictions on Erin L. White, who was arrested on March 14 for allegedly damaging property at the Tesla Sales, Service, and Delivery Center on Dundee Road. She faces charges of felony criminal damage to property and criminal trespass and will need to stay away from all Tesla property.
Tesla properties across the country have become targets for vandalism and protests, partly due to CEO Elon Musk’sinvolvement with the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The department has spearheaded massive federal spending cuts, leading to layoffs and concerns about funding for Social Security and public health programs.
