A New York City woman has pleaded guilty to federal drug charges following the tragic death of a toddler who ingested fentanyl at her daycare in September 2023.
The child, identified as Nicholas Dominici, died after exposure to fentanyl found in the Bronx daycare, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).
The woman’s husband, Felix Herrera Garcia, 35, was recently sentenced to 45 years in prison for running a fentanyl operation out of the daycare. After fleeing the country, Herrera Garcia was apprehended in Mexico and extradited to the U.S., as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
During the investigation, law enforcement discovered a significant amount of fentanyl and related paraphernalia hidden in the children’s play area and stored on play mats.
While three other children were exposed to the drug, they survived after receiving Narcan. The woman, who has pleaded guilty to federal charges, is facing a minimum sentence of 20 years and up to life in prison.
In state court, she faces additional charges, including murder, manslaughter, and assault, to which she has pleaded not guilty.
The fentanyl crisis continues to impact communities nationwide. Since President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office, approximately 34.3 tons of fentanyl have been seized at the U.S. southern border—an amount reportedly lethal enough to endanger every person on Earth.
Many Americans, including a Georgia father who recently lost his 30-year-old son to fentanyl, have expressed frustration with the administration’s handling of the crisis. He told Breitbart News that the “Biden-Harris Administration have done nothing” to address this devastating issue.
