New Jan 6 Appointments Signal Renewed War on Trump

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced the appointments of several Democrats to the January 6 subcommittee, with Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) serving as its Ranking Member.

Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) will serve on the subcommittee, while Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) will serve as an ex officio member.

“Instead of lowering costs for everyday Americans, House Republicans are once again trying to rewrite history and corrupt our electoral system. House Democrats will continue to forcefully and aggressively push back, as we did with Donald Trump’s second impeachment and the work done by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol,” Jeffries said in a statement. “We will not allow Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans to whitewash the violence and vile attack on the American way of life that occurred on January 6th.”

The appointments follow House Republicans moving to create a select subcommittee to revisit the January 6 investigations. It will be chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA).

“I am honored to continue the investigation into the events surrounding January 6, 2021, and the failures that led to the breach of the U.S. Capitol. From my subcommittee investigation in the 118th Congress, we uncovered that what happened at the Capitol that day was the result of a series of intelligence, security, and leadership failures at multiple levels within numerous entities,” Loudermilk said in July after Republicans introduced a resolution establishing the the subcomittee.

“While my subcommittee did an incredible job last Congress, there is still much work to be done. I appreciate Speaker Johnson entrusting me to continue this important investigation, and I look forward to working with Chairman Jordan and his team,” he continued. “It is vital that we continue to uncover the facts and begin the task of making needed reforms to ensure this level of security failure may never happen again.”
