New GiveSendGo Fundraiser for Canadian Anti-COVID Mandate ‘Freedom Convoy’ Quickly Hits $1 Million After GoFundMe Seizes $10 Million from Campaign

Christian-based crowdfunding site, GiveSendGo, raises hundreds of thousands of dollars overnight for truckers protesting COVID-19 mandates.

QUICK FACTS:
  • A fundraising campaign opened on the Christian crowdfunding site GiveSendGo on behalf of the Canadian ‘Freedom Convoy’ raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single day for truckers who are demanding that Canada’s government end federal COVID-19 mandates, including vaccine requirements for cross-border travel.
  • The GiveSendGo campaign, titled “Freedom Convoy 2022,” was created by “Freedom 2022 Human Rights,” according to the campaign’s webpage.
  • “The funds from this campaign will be received by Incorporated Freedom 2022 Human Rights And Freedom Association,” the webpage reads.
  • During the time this article was being written, the GiveSendGo fund increased from $900,000 to over $1,000,000.
  • Tamara Lich appears in a video on the Freedom Convoy’s GiveSendGo webpage, informing Canadians of the “easiest and simplest way to give and support truckers and those fighting for our freedoms in Ottawa,” according to the video description on Ruble.com.
  • The successful GiveSendGo campaign comes after another fundraising website, GoFundMe, seized C$10 million ($8 million USD) of a fund started on its site for the same cause, GoFundMe saying it would be giving the hefty sum to charities instead of the Freedom Convoy cause.
  • GoFundMe alleged the truckers’ demonstration had stopped being peaceful at some point, an allegation refuted by legal organizations representing the Freedom Convoy. Read more on this in the “Background” section at the bottom of this article.
  • “To ensure GoFundMe remains a trusted platform, we work with local authorities to ensure we have a detailed, factual understanding of events taking place on the ground,” GoFundMe said in a statement on Feb 4.
  • “Following a review of relevant facts and multiple discussions with local law enforcement and city officials, this fundraiser is now in violation of our Terms of Service (Term 8, which prohibits the promotion of violence and harassment) and has been removed from the platform.”

WHAT ELSE THE ‘FREEDOM CONVOY 2022’ GIVESENDGO PAGE SAYS:

“To our Fellow Canadians, the time for political overreach is over. Our current government is implementing rules and mandates that are destroying the foundation of our businesses, industries and livelihoods. Canadians have been integral to the fabric of humanity in many ways that have shaped the planet.”

“We are a peaceful country that has helped protect nations across the globe from tyrannical governments who oppressed their people, and now it seems it is happening here. We are taking our fight to the doorsteps of our Federal Government and demanding that they cease all mandates against its people. Small businesses are being destroyed, homes are being destroyed, and people are being mistreated and denied fundamental necessities to survive. It’s our duty as Canadians to put an end to these mandates. It is imperative that this happens because if we don’t our country will no longer be the country we have come to love. We are doing this for our future Generations and to regain our lives back.”

“We are asking for donations to help with the costs of fuel first, and hopefully food and lodgings to help ease the pressures of this arduous task.”

“It’s a small price to pay for our freedoms. We thank you all for your Donations and know that you are helping reshape this once beautiful country back to the way it was.”

“In order for your generous donations to flow smoothly, the good people at Give Send Go will be sending donations directly to our bulk fuel supplier and are working out the details now which means your hard-earned money is going to straight to who it was meant for and need not flow through anyone else. Any leftover donations will be donated to a credible Veterans organization which will be chosen by the donors.”

“**Money raised will be dispersed to our Truckers to aid them with the cost of the journey**
**Funds will be spent to help cover the cost of fuel for our Truckers first and foremost, will be used to assist with food if needed and contribute to shelter if needed**”

BACKGROUND:
  • GoFundMe said it had received “evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.”
  • However, John Carpay, president of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF), which is providing legal representation for the organizers, said such linking of protesters to violent or unlawful activity is unfounded, according to The Epoch Times.
  • “I would like to see what evidence there is,” Carpay said. “That’s political spin.”
  • “It’s a constitutional freedom to protest peacefully,” he added.
