NBC Faces Backlash for Cutting CJ Stroud’s Praises to Jesus

NBC faces criticism for omitting C.J. Stroud’s expression of gratitude to Jesus Christ in their coverage. After leading the Houston Texans to a decisive 45-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card Round, Stroud, the Texans’ quarterback, expressed his excitement for the win, highlighting his impressive performance with 274 passing yards and three touchdowns.

In an interview with NBC’s Kathryn Tappen following the game, Stroud took a moment to acknowledge the support he received from the city of Houston and the Texans fanbase. He began his message, “First and foremost, I just want to give all glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

However, the significance of this moment was overshadowed when NBC chose to exclude Stroud’s mention of Jesus in the social media video of the interview posted on their “Sunday Night Football on NBC” Twitter account. They started the video with Stroud praising the city instead, completely skipping over Stroud praising Jesus Christ for the success.

“I mean, it’s been amazing being in this city for a short as I’ve been but the love that I’ve got,” he says in the clip. “I’ve really just been doing it for Houston, man. People back home, I’m blessed enough to be in this position I am. Blessed enough to be playing at a high level right now. And we gotta just keep it going but I’m super blessed.”

The edited video featured Stroud discussing his appreciation for H-Town without including his initial expression of “giving all glory” to Jesus. This decision has led to a storm of public criticism, with some labeling NBC’s action as “outright despicable.”
