Navy Ends Dog, Cat Testing

The U.S. Navy announced that it is ending tests on cats and dogs.

“Today, it gives me great pleasure to terminate all Department of the Navy’s testing on cats and dogs, saving taxpayer dollars and ending these inhumane studies. This is long overdue,” Navy Secretary John C. Phelan said in a video statement. “In addition to this termination, I am directing the Surgeon General of the Navy to conduct a comprehensive review of all medical research programs to ensure they align with ethical guidelines, scientific necessity, and core values of integrity and readiness.”

The announcement comes days after the Pentagon canceled a $10 million experiment, activist organization White Coat Waste Project (WCW) said.

The move comes as a result of WCW’s advocacy and reporting from investigative journalist Laura Loomer, as well as support from bipartisan lawmakers and efforts from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to end reckless spending.

Similarly, the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Jay Bhattacharya, announced earlier this month that the agency has shuttered its last in-house beagle labs.

During an interview with Fox & Friends Weekend, Bhattacharya said, “It’s very easy, for instance, to cure Alzheimer’s in mice. But those things don’t translate to humans. So we put forward a policy to replace animals in research with technological advances, AI and other tools, that actually translate better to human health.”

“We got rid of all of the beagle experiments on NIH campus,” he declared. Bhattacharya further stated that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent him flowers to honor the lab’s closure.
