Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris secured the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in an “open” contest, despite no other candidates challenging her as the party united behind her.
Pelosi made these remarks during an interview with Bill Maher on HBO’s “Real Time.”
“Many times when I’m encouraging people to run, especially more women, to run for office,” she said, adding that there is “nothing more wholesome in our political process than that — aren’t we excited about?”
The statement comes amid speculation and discussions about the Democratic Party’s leadership and future direction as the next election approaches.
Pelosi claimed that Harris won an “open” contest for the nomination despite having no challengers facing her.
“Anybody could have gotten in,” she claimed. “She wrapped it up, you have to give her credit for that.”
