$6M Bitcoin Ransom Shocks Family in Guthrie Kidnapping Case

The individuals claiming responsibility for the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, are demanding $6 million in bitcoin, according to reporting from a Tucson television station that says it received one of several ransom notes.

KGUN9 reporter JJ McKinney stated that the message warned Nancy Guthrie’s life could be in danger if the payment is not delivered by a deadline set for 5 p.m. local time Monday. Authorities have not publicly confirmed the authenticity of the notes or whether the communication came directly from those responsible for her disappearance.

Savannah Guthrie appeared alongside her siblings, Annie and Camron, in a video message released Saturday night pleading for Nancy’s safe return. In the statement, the family acknowledged receiving a message from those claiming to hold her and expressed willingness to comply with demands if it meant securing her release. The anchor said their only priority is bringing their mother home safely.

Sunday marked the eighth day since Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31, after spending the evening at Annie Guthrie’s home for dinner and a game night. She was officially reported missing around midday on February 1, triggering a large-scale search effort that has continued across the Tucson area.

Investigators conducted additional searches Saturday at both Annie’s residence and Nancy Guthrie’s own home. Law enforcement has not disclosed what prompted the renewed activity or whether any evidence was recovered during the sweeps. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has maintained that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

As of the latest update, officials say no suspects or persons of interest have been publicly identified. Authorities have also not commented on whether the ransom demand has influenced their investigative strategy.

The case has drawn significant national attention as federal, state, and local agencies continue coordinating efforts to locate Nancy Guthrie and determine who may be responsible for her disappearance.
