Musk Confirms Twitter Will Join French Democrat’s ‘Fight against Disinformation’

On Saturday, Jean-Noel Barrot, a French politician in the Democratic Movement (MoDem) serving as Minister for Digital Transition, visited Twitter’s owner Elon Musk to discuss the company’s compliance with European censorship regulations, according to a report from Reclaim the Net.

Barrot tweeted that during their meeting, Musk “confirmed to me [Twitter’s] intention to comply with European rules, and its commitments on content moderation, the fight against disinformation and child protection.”

These comments come in response to the EU’s Digital Services Act, set to take effect in 2024, which will require online platforms to promptly remove harmful content and suspend users who repeatedly violate rules.

Since taking over Twitter in October, Musk has implemented several changes, including reversing Covid censorship policies and laying off employees.

European Commissioner Thierry Breton previously warned that the platform must follow the EU’s speech regulations.
