Multiple Washington, D.C. Roads, Metro Stations to Close During Inauguration

The upcoming presidential swearing-in ceremony for President-elect Donald Trump, now moved indoors, will bring significant road and transit closures to Washington, D.C., as security measures are heightened following two prior assassination attempts against him.

The United States Secret Service issued a statement this morning, alerting the public to expect “additional vehicular, public transportation, and pedestrian impacts” around Capitol One Arena, where Trump is set to hold a rally on Sunday.

“The U.S. Secret Service and our partners are working in close coordination with the Presidential Inaugural Committee and the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies to adapt our security plans as needed due to the inclement weather expected during Monday’s Presidential Inauguration,” the agency said.

“As part of our National Special Security Event planning process, we account for various contingencies, including inclement weather. While details are being finalized, additional vehicular, public transportation and pedestrian impacts should be expected in the area around the Capital One Arena. While these adjustments will undoubtedly affect the people of Washington, D.C., the goal of the Secret Service and our partners is to provide the most secure environment, while minimizing impact to residents and businesses.”

Key areas affected by closures include the Capitol building and surrounding streets, as well as transit routes near Capitol One Arena. Residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead, avoid the areas if possible, and use alternative transportation options.

Authorities emphasize that the closures are part of extensive security protocols to ensure public safety during the high-profile events. Further updates are expected in the coming days as details of the closures and restrictions are finalized.
