MSNBC Faces Backlash for Mocking Voters on Immigration Concerns

Super Tuesday unfolded predictably, culminating in Nikki Haley suspending her primary campaign after a series of defeats. With the 2024 race now officially a rematch of 2020, the personalities of MSNBC were in full swing.

During a segment, Jen Psaki, Rachel Maddow, and Joy Reid found themselves under scrutiny after mocking voters who prioritized illegal immigration as a top concern.

Psaki remarked, “And if you look at some of these exit polls, I mean, I live in Virginia. Immigration was the number one issue, according, again, these could change…”

Reid laughed, while Maddow quipped, “Well, Virginia does have a border with West Virginia, a very contested area. Build the wall.”

The exchange, captured on video, should alarm Democratic Party voters as it illustrates the disconnect between party elites and public sentiment. Rather than acknowledging the concerns of Americans, they seem inclined to double down on references to January 6th and even the Cookie Monster. Maddow’s disparaging comment about West Virginia only underscores their detachment.

Failure to recognize and address these concerns poses a significant challenge for Democrats. Recent high-profile crimes, such as the killing of Laken Riley in Georgia, have amplified worries about the border crisis.

In Virginia, the arrest of an illegal immigrant from Venezuela for assaulting a child underscores the gravity of the situation. Psaki’s apparent astonishment at Virginians caring about such incidents is perplexing.

One would expect Democrats, including influential figures on television, to pivot and acknowledge the pressing issues at hand. Addressing the border crisis with sincerity and action could potentially sway elections. However, their unwavering pride seems to prevent any course correction. In the face of arguably the worst illegal immigration crisis in American history, Democrats’ continued lack of concern is striking.
