Country music star Morgan Wallen has addressed his abrupt departure from the March 29, 2025, episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL), clarifying that his early exit was not due to any conflict but simply a desire to return home after a week of rehearsals. In a May 11 interview on the podcast Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley, Wallen stated, “No, no. I was just ready to go home. I’d been there all week.”
Following his performance of “I’m the Problem” and “Just in Case” from his upcoming album I’m the Problem, Wallen left the stage during the show’s closing segment, deviating from the customary group farewell. He later posted an Instagram story featuring a private jet with the caption “Get me to God’s country,” a phrase he subsequently used on merchandise.
Longtime SNL cast member Kenan Thompson commented on the incident, noting that such departures are uncommon and speculating on Wallen’s understanding of the show’s traditions. Despite the deviation, Thompson acknowledged that other artists, like Prince, have exhibited similar behavior.
SNL addressed Wallen’s exit in its April 5 episode through satirical sketches, including a cold open featuring James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump character referencing the incident.
Wallen’s album I’m the Problem is scheduled for release on May 16, 2025.
