Country music star Morgan Wallen pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment charges after throwing a chair off a rooftop bar in Nashville, Tennessee, in April. Originally facing felony charges, Wallen’s plea deal will keep his record clear if he meets court requirements over the next two years.
Judge Cynthia Chappell sentenced Wallen to seven days at a DUI education center, two years of supervised probation, and a $350 fine plus court fees. His charges were reduced from felonies to misdemeanors during a hearing on December 12. Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, explained that Wallen’s conditional plea, under Tennessee’s Diversion Statute, means the charges could be dismissed and expunged if he successfully completes probation.
Wallen’s representative confirmed his cooperation with authorities and his efforts to apologize to those involved. “Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation,” the statement read.
The incident occurred on April 7 at Chief’s, a Nashville bar associated with fellow country star Eric Church. Wallen allegedly threw a chair from the sixth floor, leading to initial charges of disorderly conduct and three felony counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. The legal proceedings complicated Wallen’s schedule as he was in the middle of his “One Night at a Time” tour.
Despite the legal drama, Wallen completed his tour, which ended in October in Charlotte, North Carolina. Wallen later shared a message with fans, thanking them for their support and hinting at a return in 2025. “I’m taking a little bit of time for myself, but I’m working also, and I can’t wait to get back out there and see y’all at some point next year.”
Known for hits like “Whiskey Glasses” and “Last Night,” Wallen remains a prominent figure in country music. Fans are hopeful for new music and tour announcements in the coming year as he navigates the conclusion of his legal obligations.
