More than 2,500 New York City Police Officers Left Department in 2023

Throughout 2023, 2,516 members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) left their jobs.

Many police officers stated they are overworked and underpaid in the city and have left for better opportunities.

Over 1,000 NYPD officers left before reading the 20 years required to receive their full pensions, the New York Post reported.

The number is a 104% increase from 2020.

One of the officers told the outlet that they have been “working an average of about 13 to 14 hours a day with a lot of the protests happening in the city. Enough is enough. I’ll have maybe one day off for the week and I’m so tired from work I don’t want to do anything.”

A former Miami SWAT team officer who aids relocating New York City police officers said he is “busier than ever.”

“The cops who left can’t believe they ever worked there [NYPD],” Spero Georgedakis said.

According to Georgedakis, the police officers were “afraid to make arrests” because of anti-police sentiments.

New York citizens previously expressed that they may end their support for New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) amid an ongoing crime surge.

“The most important responsibility of government is to protect its citizens, and that is not happening with the Democrats running the show, with Hochul being the governor for a while,” former Democratic New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind said.

“I guess the criminals are running the town. The criminals run the place. They do what they want, when they want, however they want to, to whomever they want with no consequences,” New York City mother and Democrat Madeline Brame said.
