The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that more than 2.5 million illegal immigrants have left the United States.
More than 605,000 migrants have been deported since January 20. Furthermore, 1.9 million illegal immigrants have voluntarily left the nation. DHS called the statistics a “monumental achievement,” declaring, “We are just getting started.”
DHS launched an app for migrants to self-deport earlier this year. Acting Commissioner of U.S Customs and Border Protection Pete Flores said in March that the app “strengthens our mission to secure the U.S. border by ensuring lawful entry for travelers and supporting effective enforcement.” The app features an “Intent to Depart” function that allows those illegally present in the United States to inform the government of their intention to leave the country.
Migrants using the app to self-deport can secure a free flight and a $1,000 stipend.
“The Trump Administration is shattering historic records with more than 2.5 million illegal aliens leaving the U.S. DHS has deported more than 605,000 illegal aliens and another 1.9 million have self-deported. Since January 20, DHS has arrested more than 595,000 illegal aliens,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “Illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now. They know if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return.”
In the first 250 days of President Trump’s second term, more than 2 million illegal immigrants left the United States, DHS said in September.
A October study by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found that the number of foreign-born immigrants in the United States declined by 2.2 million. Nearly three-fourths of the decline consists of illegal immigrants.
