Missouri Man Indicted for Murdering Pregnant Woman and Twins

A Missouri man has been indicted for the October murder of a pregnant woman and her unborn twins in Wentzville, in what authorities describe as a tragic domestic violence case.

Darryl K. Tyson Jr., 39, faces three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of armed criminal action, and a domestic assault charge in connection with the death of 28-year-old BreAnna Johnson and her unborn children. Johnson, who was four months pregnant with twins, was found dead at her residence on the 100 block of Katie Lynn Court on October 31, 2023.

Prosecutors allege that Tyson, who was in a relationship with Johnson, shot and killed her and the unborn babies. Johnson was also the mother of two young children, a 6-month-old and a 17-month-old.

Authorities have described this as a case of escalating domestic violence. Records show Tyson had a history of domestic violence, and Johnson had sought help in the months leading up to her death. JADASA, a domestic violence support organization, confirmed that Johnson reached out for assistance before the fatal incident.

Court documents reveal that police responded to Johnson’s home just 24 hours before her death, following allegations that Tyson had physically assaulted her by throwing a phone at her head. Despite this prior intervention, the tragic event unfolded the next day.

A grand jury formally indicted Tyson on December 19. His bond has been set at $1 million, cash only.

This case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence and underscores the urgent need for effective support and intervention for victims. Local advocates are calling for stronger measures to protect those in dangerous domestic situations.
