The U.S. Mint unveiled designs for the coins honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“For one year only, the new designs—emblematic of the United States Semiquincentennial—will be depicted on the obverse and reverse of the 2026 dime, quarter-dollar coin (featuring five different designs), and half-dollar coin,” the Mint explained in a press release.
“The designs on these historic coins depict the story of America’s journey toward a ‘more perfect union,’ and celebrate America’s defining ideals of liberty,” Acting Mint Director Kristie McNally said in a statement. “We hope to offer each American the opportunity to hold our nation’s storied 250 years of history in the palms of their hands as we Connect America through Coins.”
Quarter designs feature images depicting the Mayflower Compact, Revolutionary War, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and Gettysburg Address.
A $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump is also in the works. “No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and [President Trump] are real,” U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach said in October. “Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over.”
The draft images of the coin feature the phrase, “Fight, fight, fight,” from the Pennsylvania rally when a bullet grazed Trump’s ear.
The Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 became law during President Trump’s first term, allowing the Treasury Secretary to issue $1 coins “with designs emblematic of the U.S. semiquincentennial” beginning January 1, 2026, a bill summary says.
Federal law generally prohibits coins from bearing images of a living president.
