Miller Lite ‘Has Joined the Woke Cult’: Conservative Reaction to New Beer Brand Ad Campaign

Conservative critics are now targeting Miller Lite, accusing the beer brand of embracing “wokeness” in a new commercial that acknowledges its previous portrayal of women in ads.

Originally released as part of the Women’s History Month campaign in March, the commercial, featuring feminist comedian Ilana Glazer, resurfaced on social media, sparking a fresh wave of controversy.

Glazer’s “The Planet is Burning,” her 2020 debut stand-up comedy special that premiered on Amazon Prime, received a 9% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the resurfaced commercial, Glazer raises the issue of sexualization of women in Miller Lite’s past advertisements.

She emphasizes the company’s commitment to rectifying this problem and states sarcastically, “They put us in bikinis. Wow.”

Glazer goes on to highlight Miller Lite’s current initiatives, such as purchasing old marketing material to convert it into compost to support women brewers.

However, the commercial’s message has drawn the ire of conservatives, who view Miller Lite’s embrace of feminism as an example of “wokeness.”

This backlash gained momentum on social media, with several prominent right-wing influencers taking to Twitter to express their grievances.

Consequently, Miller Lite became a trending topic on the platform, generating further discussion and debate, according to a report from Newsweek.

“Miller Lite has joined the woke cult,” tweeted Citizen Free Press.

Conservative commentator Ian Miles Cheong tweeted: “Miller Lite said to Bud Light, ‘hold my beer,’ and decided to create a new ad campaign straight out of early 2010s ‘I hate all men’ feminism to sell a drink to customers they hate,” tweeted.

“It’s just condescending. Why do ad agencies think condescending ads work? They don’t. You’d think they’d have learned from all those Gillette ads backfiring.”

Journalist Kyle Becker tweeted that his “critique of this is not that Miller Lite is targeting women. It’s that it treats women like fragile victims.”

“It’s a vegan feminist lesbian’s idea of ‘female empowerment.’ Working women and moms are too busy getting things done to care about this garbage. Dudes like hot women. Get over it. Nobody faults women for liking hot guys. Enough of this whining. It won’t sell you more beer,” he went on to say.

“Miller Lite went Feminazi. Boycott Miller Lite,” another Twitter user wrote.

A report from The Daily Caller revealed the chief marketing officer of Miller Lite owner Molson Coors Beverage, Sofia Colucci, has a history of supporting liberal causes such as gun control, protests for George Floyd, illegal immigration, and the COVID-19 vaccine.

But Miller is not the only beer brand to go woke.

Bud Light recently experienced a significant decline in sales and faced backlash since its collaboration with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in April.

The promotion, which involved Mulvaney endorsing the beer brand on Instagram, sparked calls for a boycott from conservative commentators and celebrities.

As a result, Bud Light’s sales dropped by 23% compared to the previous year.

In response to the controversy, Anheuser-Busch, the brewer of Bud Light, announced that two executives would be taking a leave of absence.
