Military personnel have reportedly been deployed to guard the Wolcott Hotel in Manhattan, which has been converted into a shelter for migrants.
This deployment was captured on video by citizen journalist Jason Goodman. The hotel, previously a popular tourist destination, closed to regular guests in 2023 due to the ongoing migrant crisis and concerns over the COVID-19 Delta variant.
The presence of military personnel highlights the escalating challenges New York City faces in managing the influx of migrants.
“Is the army turning this thing into a migrant shelter? Why are you guys here? It’s a hotel. Why is the army at this hotel?” Goodman asked.
“We’re here at the request of the State of New York,” one of the soldiers could be heard responding.
