The O’Keefe Media Group (OMG) released a video of a Meta engineer admitting that the platform demotes anti-Harris content.
Jeevan Gyawali, a senior engineer for the company, explained to an undercover journalist how Meta censors posts unfavorable to Harris and the Democratic Party.
“There is a team called integrity team,” he said. “That’s like a large portion of, like, it’s a pretty significant team and they build all these classifiers.”
Gyawali noted that Facebook has “civic classifiers.”
“So anything that it detects to be civic content is, like, demoted,” he explained. He clarified that “civic classifier” means that any “political content” is “automatically not shown.”
The engineer later stated that users are not told when their posts are censored.
“Say your uncle in Ohio said something about Kamala Harris is unfit to be a president because she doesn’t have a child, that kind of [expletive] is automatically demoted,” Gyawali said, adding that the “person would not be notified.”
Gyawali also shared that Meta has a SWAT team to “think about all the scenarios of how the platform could be abused.”
Discussing Meta’s actions against “misinformation,” the engineer emphasized, “[T]hat’s all going to be demoted, 100%.”
When asked if Meta has the ability to influence the upcoming election, Gyawali said, “Yes.” He further explained that he believes Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will help the Democrats.
