First Lady Melania Trump has announced that public tours of the White House will resume starting February 25, 2025. This marks the first time the executive mansion will be open to visitors during President Donald Trump’s second term, restoring a long-standing tradition that allows the American public to experience the history and grandeur of the White House.
In a statement, Mrs. Trump expressed enthusiasm about welcoming guests back, emphasizing the educational value of seeing the White House firsthand. “There is much to learn about the American Presidency, the First Families who have lived here, and our Nation’s rich history from a firsthand experience at the White House,” she said. The First Lady has been a strong advocate for preserving the historical and cultural significance of the residence, previously leading restoration efforts during her husband’s first term.
Public tours will be self-guided, lasting approximately 45 minutes, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors can schedule tours from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, excluding federal holidays. Those interested in attending must submit requests through their congressional representatives at least three weeks in advance, with scheduling available up to three months before their planned visit.
The tour will cover several public rooms in the East Wing and Residence, including the Vermeil Room, the China Room, and the historic East Room, which has hosted many significant presidential events. Visitors will also have a chance to view the White House Kennedy Garden. Secret Service officers stationed along the route will provide historical insights on the artwork, furnishings, and current uses of each room.
The reopening of the White House to the public follows a temporary pause in tours during the transition into President Trump’s second term. The decision to resume visits reflects a commitment to public engagement and transparency, allowing citizens from across the country to connect with their nation’s history in a meaningful way.
Interest in White House tours is expected to be high, particularly among history enthusiasts, students, and tourists eager to experience one of the most iconic buildings in the United States. The return of public access aligns with Mrs. Trump’s ongoing efforts to promote American heritage, architecture, and the importance of civic engagement.
As one of the most visited landmarks in Washington, D.C., the White House reopening offers an opportunity for Americans to witness presidential history up close. The First Lady’s initiative ensures that this tradition continues, reinforcing the White House’s role as “The People’s House.”
