Matt Gaetz’s Father to Run for Florida Senate

Don Gaetz, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R) father, announced he is running for state Senate.

Gaetz is looking to replace Senator Dough Broxson.

Matt Gaetz announced his father’s state senatorial bid by tweeting, “Gaetz 2024.”

Don Gaetz told the Penascola News Journal that he had not considered a state senatorial run until a radio host informed him that he had heard others suggest Gaetz run.

“I told him ‘I don’t have any plans to run for the Senate’ but I told people I would listen. So I’m listening. That spread,” Gaetz said to the outlet.

“Then three or four days ago Frank (White) said ‘Don, if you run I will withdraw.’ That made the decision a lot easier.”

Reporting from The Daily Caller:

Gaetz also shut down the rumor that his son is mulling a bid for Governor of Florida.

“Matt’s not pursuing any run for governor. He’s pushing forward tackling budget and spending problems in Washington and fighting for term limits,” Don Gaetz told the outlet.
