A Belgian man committed suicide following exchanges with an AI chatbot known as Eliza.
After the man proposed killing himself, the chatbot encouraged him to follow through to “save the planet,” according to reports.
Eliza told the father of two young children that he could “join” her and they could “live together, as one person, in paradise.”

He had concerns about climate change, but took no extreme positions, his widow said, until he became involved with the AI. "When he spoke to me about it, it was to tell me that he no longer saw any human solution to global warming," his widow explained. "He placed all his hopes in technology and artificial intelligence to get out of it." The report from La Libre explained Eliza "fed his worries which worsened his anxiety," which later developed into suicidal thoughts.
