A man is in custody following a shooting at HonorHealth hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona. Police report that a security guard was shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred near Loop 101 and Shea Boulevard at HonorHealth.
Scottsdale Police released the following statement:
“Scottsdale PD detectives are investigating after a man was shot in the upper body while inside the ER at Honor Health Shea a little after 1 PM today. There is currently no information that supports this was an active shooter situation. The suspect was originally brought in by a family member as a potential patient at the hospital.
While inside the ER, there was an altercation with the suspect and security which escalated into the suspect shooting a security guard in the upper body. That gunshot victim was ultimately transported to a trauma center for additional care. His current condition is not known.
Hospital security and staff helped subdue the suspect and disarm him as police were responding. A handgun was recovered at the scene and was turned over to police. The suspect was placed under arrest by responding officers. There is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community. The only other reported injury was a minor hand/ wrist injury to a second security guard.
This remains an active investigation. Our detectives have a lot of work ahead as they conduct interviews and collect evidence to peace together what led up to this shooting.
The hospital is safe, still open and accepting patients and walk-ins to the emergency room. There is only a small area that is affected by the ongoing investigation.”
