Malik Obama, the half brother to Barack Obama, raised questions Monday after tweeting that the former president is “definitely gay.”

QUICK FACTS:
  • The well-known half-brother of Barack Obama, Malik Obama, caught social media by surprise Monday after tweeting that the former president is “definitely gay” and later deleting the post.
  • The response came after Obama posted a letter praising librarians and complaining about the “banning” of certain types of books, including those that push the LGBTQ agenda.
  • “This man is definitely gay,” Malik tweeted.
  • One “children’s” text Barack claimed was being banned and has raised concerns for parents is titled Gender Queer: A Memoir, a book featuring graphic images and descriptions of homosexual conduct.
  • Malik has been outspoken against his half-brother in the past, accusing Barack of abandoning his Kenyan family, claiming he was “cold and ruthless.”
  • “He got rich and became a snob,” Malik said in August 2020. “What I saw was he was the kind of person that wants people to worship him. He needs to be worshiped and I don’t do that. I am his older brother so I don’t do that.”
FORMER PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA ON “SUPPORTING” EVERYONE NO MATTER THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION:

“No matter who you love or what God you worship, you can still pursue happiness—I will support you every step of the way,” Obama said.

BACKGROUND:
  • In December 2015, President Obama openly spoke of repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, legislation signed by Bill Clinton that prevented same-sex married couples from receiving the many benefits available to other married couples under federal law.
  • “We have never gone wrong when we expanded rights and responsibilities to everybody,” Obama said at the time. “That doesn’t weaken families, that strengthens families.”
  • The former president made the remarks while raising money at an event hosted by the LGBT Leadership Council before an audience of gay and lesbian supporters in New York.
  • In June 2011, Obama first proclaimed the month to be “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.”
  • “The story of America’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community is the story of our fathers and sons, our mothers and daughters, and our friends and neighbors who continue the task of making our country a more perfect Union,” Obama claimed.
  • “Each June, we commemorate the courageous individuals who have fought to achieve this promise for LGBT Americans, and we rededicate ourselves to the pursuit of equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
