Majority of California Voters Oppose Abortion Increase

Only 14% of voters in CA believe abortion should be legal at any time during pregnancy.

QUICK FACTS:
  • California voters faced with Proposition 1 in the upcoming election will be forced to choose how they want to amend the state constitution regarding abortion rights.
  • According to a recent poll by Rasmusen and the Capitol Resource Institute, only about 14% of likely California voters believe abortion should be legal at all points of pregnancy.
  • Only around 13% think abortion should be legal up to six months gestation and 34% believe abortions should be legal up to three months along.
  • Around 19% believe that abortion should be legal during the first month of pregnancy only and around 15% believe all abortions should be illegal.
STATEMENT FROM CAPITOL RESOURCE INSTITUTE:
  • “The more Californians learn that Proposition 1 would legalize late-term abortion, the more they oppose it,” said Karen England, President of the Capitol Resource Institute.
  • “This isn’t surprising since 79 percent of likely California voters said in an earlier poll that they would not support killing a child up until birth. Gavin Newsom and the radicals in Sacramento have authored one of the most extreme pieces of abortion legislation ever placed on a ballot. My prayer is that the good people of California don’t fall into Newsom’s trap.”
BACKGROUND:
  • A recent study indicated that the majority of Catholics reject Democrats’ “distortion” of church teachings on abortions.
  • The survey conducted of more than 1,500 “likely catholic voters” found that more than 67% support federal funding for pregnancy crisis centers, and overall, only 2 in 3 Americans support allowing tax dollars to go toward the cause.
