WHAT’S HAPPENING IN CHINA:
- China is accused of crimes against humanity and likely genocide against the mostly-Muslim ethnic groups that reside in the north-western region of Xinjiang, according to the BBC.
- Human rights groups believe that the Chinese Communist Party has detained over a million Uyghurs in “re-education camps” and sentenced thousands to prison.
- There is also strong evidence that the Uyghurs people are being used as forced labor and that the women are being forcibly sterilized.
- The BBC also reports that detainees have alleged they were tortured and sexually abused while in the camps.
- China denies all these allegations.

- Palihapitiya is a Canadian-born venture capitalist and the CEO of Societal Capital which claims that its call is “solving the world’s hardest problems,” according to the company’s Twitter bio.
