Louisiana Doctor Arrested for Allegedly Helping Sister Remove Ankle Monitor

Dr. Kerry Sterling has been arrested in northeast Louisiana after allegedly attempting to help his sister, Kyana Traylor, remove her court-ordered ankle monitor. Traylor, who was charged with manslaughter in the 2023 death of her boyfriend’s brother, was recently released on bond.

Sterling was taken into custody in Tallulah over the weekend and is currently being held at the Madison Parish Jail. Authorities plan to transfer him to Jefferson Parish, where he faces charges of accessory after the fact to manslaughter and tampering with electronic monitoring equipment.

According to the Assured Supervision Accountability Program (ASAP), which manages Traylor’s ankle monitor, an agent caught Sterling attempting to remove it at the corner of Dauphine Street and Poland Avenue on March 11. Investigators say this was not his first attempt—on March 10, Traylor checked herself into University Medical Center, where Sterling, dressed in scrubs and posing as a doctor, also tried to disable the device.

Legal analyst Joe Raspanti noted that Sterling could face up to five years in prison if convicted. Additionally, the allegations may put his medical license at risk. “He may need to worry about how this is going to impact his medical career,” Raspanti said.

“Accessory after the fact—there’s a penalty of up to five years in the state of Louisiana,” he said. “This guy, if he’s a medical doctor as he says he is, there’s a whole lot of ways to find this fellow.”

Sterling remains in custody as authorities prepare to move forward with charges.
