Los Angeles Opens Homeless High-Rise

Los Angeles has opened its high-rise homeless shelter.

The Weingart Center Tower contains 228 studio apartments, 47 one-bedroom apartments, and three apartments for managers.

Those living in the high-rise will have access to a variety of amenities, including a gym, pool, art room, library, and other spaces.

The 19-story building cost $165 million, according to Fox 11.

Two other towers are in development. One will open in an estimated 18 months, while the other is in its earliest stages.

Weingart Center Association President and Chief Executive Kevin Murray told the Los Angeles Times that the project aims to “make our little corner of the world look and feel a little better.”

Nella McOsker, president and chief executive of the Central City Assn. of Los Angeles said that “housing at all income levels is key to a vibrant and dynamic residential population in downtown L.A.”
