Former Republican Congresswoman hit the campaign trail with Kamala Harris this week, urging conservatives to support the Democrat in the upcoming presidential election.
“I think there are many of us around the country who have been pro-life, but who have watched what’s going on in our states since the Dobbs decision and have watched state legislatures put in place laws that are resulting in women not getting the care they need,” Cheney said during an event in Pennsylvania.
Cheney was speaking at the first of three joint events with the vice-president in the suburbs of three swing states and is rumored to be in the running for a seat in a Harris cabinet if she wins.
“I think this is not an issue that we’re seeing break down across party lines, but I think we’re seeing people come together to say: what has happened to women, when women are facing situations where they can’t get the care they need, where in places like Texas, for example, the attorney general is talking about suing, is suing, to get access to women’s medical records that’s not sustainable for us as a country and it has to change,” Cheney continued.
Earlier this month, Cheney announced her endorsement for Harris for President.
She made her declaration during a speech at Duke University.
“I think it is crucially important for people to recognize, not only is what I just said about the danger that Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states,” Cheney said. “And as a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
Cheney received a standing ovation, according to Duke’s newspaper, The Chronicle.
Donald Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, responded to Cheney’s announcement during an event with Turning Point USA.
“Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney make very, very interesting partners. They get rich when America’s sons and daughters go off to die. They get rich when America loses wars instead of winning wars,” he said. “They get rich when America gets weaker in the world. We want American strength, American security, and most importantly peace. Let’s bring peace back to the world and Donald Trump is the candidate to do it.”
Vance noted that Trump will “make sure that people like Liz Cheney are laughed out of the Oval Office instead of rewarded.”
