Ana Kasparian, co-host of The Young Turks, strongly objected to a suggestion by her colleague Cenk Uygur that Vice President Kamala Harris could easily become the next governor of California. Uygur claimed Harris could win “in a cakewalk,” adding, “I’m telling you the reality, whether you like it or not. Democratic voters in California love to obey.”
Kasparian pushed back forcefully, saying, “No! No! What are you doing? What are you doing?” She expressed her frustration at the idea of Harris leading California, declaring, “This state cannot survive another incompetent Democrat leading it. No, we just can’t.”
Uygur clarified that he wasn’t advocating for Harris but pointing out the political reality: “If the Democratic Party said, ‘We anoint Kamala Harris,’ a giant percentage of Democrats in California would go, ‘Yes! We obey. It doesn’t matter how bad she is!’”
Kasparian’s frustration was palpable, even threatening drastic action: “I’m gonna move, Cenk! I’m gonna quit my job, and I’m gonna move.” She concluded with a direct appeal to Harris, urging her to step away from public office: “How about you wait and see, like, your way out of public life? Go work in the private sector. Go do the lobbying thing — whatever it is. But don’t run as governor of California. Do not!”
The exchange reflects broader debates among Democrats about Harris’s political future and whether her leadership has a place in California or beyond.
