Leftist LGBTQ Todd Gloria Sworn in For Second Term as San Diego Mayor

Democrat Todd Gloria has officially begun his second term as mayor of San Diego this week. Gloria, who was voted as the city’s first person of color and first LGBTQ+ mayor, was sworn in during the City of San Diego’s 75th Inauguration Ceremony at the Jacobs Music Center at Copley Symphony Hall.

Accompanied by his family, Mayor Gloria took the oath of office on Tuesday, reflecting on his first term, which began amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. His leadership has focused on addressing issues such as homelessness, housing affordability, and infrastructure improvements.

As he embarks on his second term, Gloria is expected to continue advocating for inclusive policies and tackling the pressing challenges facing San Diego.

“This morning, I stand before you deeply humbled and profoundly honored to be sworn in for a second term as your Mayor,” said Mayor Todd Gloria during his inauguration address. “The past four years have been among the most challenging in our history. Yet, through it all, we rolled up our sleeves, focused on what mattered, and made real progress.”

“I take this oath today with a simple but firm commitment: There will be no second-term slowdown. Instead, this will be a second-term double-down,” Mayor Gloria told the crowd at the Jacobs Music Center. “The challenges ahead will be formidable, but my faith in us is unshakable. I believe in our ability to rise to the occasion, make tough choices, and move forward.”

San Diego County’s Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to designate the county as a “super sanctuary” jurisdiction, further limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, including in cases involving violent crimes committed by illegal aliens.

The resolution, which aligns with California’s 2017 “California Values Act,” restricts state and local law enforcement from coordinating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) unless a judicial warrant is presented. The Act was originally passed to counter the immigration enforcement policies of former President Donald Trump.

Supporters of the resolution argue it protects due process and prevents racial profiling. Critics, however, claim the policy prioritizes shielding illegal aliens over public safety, particularly in cases involving violent offenders.

The measure reflects ongoing debates across the country over local government cooperation with federal immigration enforcement and its impact on community safety and individual rights.
