Lara Trump Removes Name From Florida’s Senate Seat, Says She Has a ‘Big Announcement’ in January

Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, announced on Saturday that she is withdrawing her name from consideration for Florida’s Senate vacancy. The vacancy arose after Senator Marco Rubio was nominated by Trump to serve as Secretary of State.

“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Trump said in a statement.

“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida. I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough.”

Florida law requires Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint a replacement for the open Senate seat. Lara Trump, who has been a prominent figure in Republican politics and recently served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee, was widely speculated to be a top contender for the position.

“I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned,” she continued. “I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment.”

Governor DeSantis is now tasked with selecting Rubio’s successor, a decision that could shape Florida’s political landscape and carry national implications as the Senate majority hangs in a delicate balance.
