An investigative journalist claims victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires have yet to receive any of the millions raised by the high-profile “FireAid” charity event. The fundraiser, promoted by Hollywood celebrities and political figures, promised immediate relief for displaced families but reportedly has not delivered a single payment. Survivors are left struggling while organizers remain silent.
The “FireAid” gala, held earlier this year, drew national attention and raised an estimated $15 million. Organizers pledged that funds would go directly to those who lost homes and businesses in the fires. However, several victims interviewed say they have received no financial assistance and no clear explanation for the delay. Many are living in temporary shelters or with relatives as they await help that was promised months ago.
Investigative reporter Julia Grant reviewed public filings and found little transparency about how the money has been allocated. She says the charity’s leadership has refused to release a detailed accounting of expenses, fueling suspicion of mismanagement or potential fraud. Grant also noted that some of the nonprofit’s board members have ties to political groups that may have benefitted indirectly from the event.
Local officials have expressed frustration, saying the lack of aid is compounding an already dire situation. Watchdog groups are now demanding a full audit of FireAid’s finances. They argue that well-connected organizers are exploiting tragedy for publicity while victims remain in crisis. Calls are growing for law enforcement and state regulators to investigate whether the charity violated fundraising laws.
