Kim Kardashian revealed that she frequently used OpenAI’s ChatGPT during her law studies—only to claim the tool repeatedly gave incorrect answers and contributed to her failing exams. In a recent Vanity Fair “Lie Detector Test” segment with co-star Teyana Taylor, Kardashian described a strained, almost comical relationship with the AI platform, calling it a “frenemy.”
According to Kardashian, she turned to ChatGPT for legal advice by uploading photos of her test questions and asking for answers. “I use it for legal advice… I’ll take a picture and put it in there,” she said. But the results were disappointing. “They’re always wrong,” she admitted. “It has made me fail tests all the time.”
Kardashian said the experience left her frustrated. “I’ll get mad, and I’ll yell at it, and be like, ‘You made me fail! Why did you do this?’” She added that the chatbot occasionally “talks back,” supposedly trying to reassure her that the failures were meant to strengthen her intuition. “It’ll say back to me, ‘This is just teaching you to trust your own instincts. You knew the answers all along.’”
When asked whether she considered the use of ChatGPT as “cheating,” Kardashian dodged the accusation by saying the tool is never right—implying the AI’s failures negate the possibility of unfair advantage.
The reality TV star and SKIMS founder, who completed her law program in May, openly acknowledged her reliance on the technology despite its shortcomings. She described speaking to the chatbot as if it were a colleague, even scolding it during moments of disappointment. “You need to really know these answers. I’m coming to you,” she recounted saying to the AI.
While light-hearted in tone, the incident reveals a serious problem with trusting artificial intelligence for important academic and professional decisions. Tools like ChatGPT may offer quick assistance but are not a replacement for disciplined study, sound reasoning, and personal accountability. Kardashian’s experience highlights the dangers of leaning too heavily on technology, especially when pursuing serious and high-stakes goals like a legal career.
