Kari Lake, who previously vied for the gubernatorial seat in Arizona as a Republican, has officially entered the race for the U.S. Senate, with the necessary paperwork filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

The move comes after months of contemplation, which she confirmed last week in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, ahead of a formal announcement slated for October 10.

Lake is targeting the Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who transitioned from the Democratic Party to an Independent late last year.

Though Sen. Sinema hasn’t made her reelection intentions clear, Lake’s entry adds a new layer to what might become a riveting three-way contest.

In her conversation with The Wall Street Journal, Lake, a staunch conservative and a supporter of former President Donald Trump, articulated the necessity for “a senator in there who is going to fight back and put America first.”

She intends to officially announce her candidacy in a Scottsdale event on October 10, a detail that has also been reported by AZ Central.

Lake, known for her conservative stance, teased her upcoming announcement in a video released last week, urging her followers to “stay tuned.”

The video comprised snippets from news outlets and interviews, shedding light on the speculative nature of her campaign until now.

As the 2024 elections approach, the race for the Arizona Senate seat is expected to attract significant attention, potentially altering the U.S. Senate’s balance of power.
