Harris Hypocrisy: Kamala Buys Malibu Estate Despite Climate Warnings

Questions are emerging after former vice president Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, purchased an $8 million oceanside mansion in Malibu last month. The mansion purchase comes after years of Harris warning that coastal communities face severe threats from what she has repeatedly called the “climate crisis.”

A real estate listing reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon describes the home as “perched in a prime coastal location” with “breathtaking ocean views.” The property sits near Point Dume State Beach, an area flagged as vulnerable to flooding by climate models endorsed during the Biden-Harris administration. One such federal model projected severe damage from sea level rise even under modest scenarios. The Trump administration discontinued that model in June 2025.

Harris has long warned that rising seas pose a direct danger to communities like the one where her new home is located. “Our oceans are warming. Sea levels are rising,” Harris wrote during her 2019 presidential campaign. “Extreme weather is destroying our communities. We are poisoning the planet.”

As a U.S. senator, Harris co-sponsored the Living Shorelines Act, which proposed $50 million annually to combat sea level rise threatening “thousands of coastal communities and economies.” At the time, she said, “Our country is facing a climate crisis,” adding that leaders must prepare for “extreme weather that has become increasingly common.”

As vice president, Harris became the public face of the Biden administration’s Climate-Ready Coasts initiative, announcing $562 million in grants in April 2023. “To live in a coastal community is to live on the front lines of the climate crisis,” she said at the University of Miami.

Photos show Harris’s new home includes a gas stove, fireplace, and tankless water heater—features targeted by Biden-Harris era regulations. Harris’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
